Name:     John Aldred

Background

For 32 years I was Head of the History Department in a large, mixed 11 – 18 C of E comprehensive school.  I was, for much of that time, the NUT representative in the school. For 25 years I worked as a senior examiner setting A Level History papers and managing teams of assistant examiners.  I served as a JP for 18 years and, in addition to being a Presiding Justice, I also worked as an Appraiser and was a member of the Bench Training and Development Committee for Cornwall, Devon and Dorset.  I mostly worked in the Criminal courts but did spend some time in the Family court.

  • MEd Organisation and Planning in Education

Governance Experience

  • Served as a Staff Governor for 18 years and was a member of both the Personnel Committee and the Curriculum Committee.
  • Currently a Trustee of my local community centre.

Why a Trustee?

Despite having retired I feel that I am still close enough to the educational system to understand the needs and limitations of large organisations, the employees and the students.  Most importantly, I have always aimed at driving up standards within a positive, constructive and sensitive atmosphere and I would seek to support fully the ethos and aims of the Trust.
