“Askel Veur” acts as Member for Southerly Point on behalf of the Diocese of Truro. The diocese is a partner in the governance and leadership of more than 130 schools across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; this includes 44 church schools, LA maintained schools and academy schools, and secondary as well as primary phase schools.
The diocese promotes a “vision for education” that is about the flourishing of all children. We sometimes call it “life in all its fullness.” It is a vision for the whole of education, not only about what happens in church schools. Our vision can be summarised as:
- Educating for wisdom, knowledge and skills
- Educating for hope and aspiration
- Educating for community and living well together
- Educating for dignity and respect
We are proud to have been partners with Southerly Point since it began as a learning partnership and we fully support the co-operative values on which it is founded.
Askel Veur and the diocese serve as “Member” for Southerly Point. This role is usually fulfilled by the Revd Simon Cade. the Diocesan Director of Education. Simon carries out the Member role in 12 academy trusts; he trains Members across Cornwall and leads the work of the education team for the diocese. As Director of Education he works regularly with the Local Authority, Ofsted, the Regional Schools Commissioner and the national education office of the Church of England.
